Parrish Announces Bus Racing Series

STEVE PARRISH is a TV commentator, five-time European truck racing champion, former top level motorcycle racer, top after-dinner speaker and will be star guest at April’s Stafford classic bike show

Not content with all that, he has today – April 1, 2016 – announced a new Bus Racing Series for 2017 having been given the all clear from the RAC, MSI and four major tracks.

Parrish said: “Finally we have a motor racing series in which the spectators are directly involved.  The passengers will act as ballast, transferring their weight/bodies from side to side to keep the bus stable.”

A recent test at Donington Park had every one of the 40 passengers thoroughly enjoying the experience and each have signed up to take part.

Gareth Bright, from Hinckley, said: “That was the most fun I’ve ever experienced and I was very surprised on how stable the bus was!”

Independent Bus Company CEO Grant Palmer from Bedfordshire supplied the test bus and who will also enter two Volvo machines into the series. He said: “This new and exciting series will be excellent for improving the safety in our industry.”

Donington Park’s sporting director Bob Adams was stunned at how stable and fast the bus was and is really looking forward to the spectacle. Patrick Allen, boss at Silverstone Circuit, has already been inundated with sponsors wanting to be involved in the new initiative.

Circuit of Wales motor sports director Chris Herring said: “It’s always refreshing to welcome new motor sport ideas and bus racing should provide excellent content for both summer and winter months.  I believe there is already interest from two towns in mid-Wales looking to enter teams.  Fortunately we are designing the circuit with high bridges so it will easily cope with double-deckers.”

Parrish added: “I believe it will run throughout the winter when we are normally starved of motor sport. The fans and spectators will be on board in the warmth and will really play an integral part in the bus racing team, as their performance inside the bus is tantamount to the driver’s ability. We may need to look at the size of the podium though!”

The inspiration for bus racing stems from when Steve Parrish took a 52-seater bus round Donington Park for a BBC MotoGP programme. Perhaps he’ll be sharing more information about his new venture during his on-stage chats at the Carole Nash sponsored Stafford show on April 23-24.
