 As a youth, Derek owned a Garelli Tiger until passing his driving test, when he purchased his first car, a 1967 Mini.
Derek's interests at the time were cycling and in 1982 he cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End with a school friend, raising money for a local charity.
He worked for BT for 25 years before leaving to build his own house, after which he became self-employed, mainly working with two joiner friends, before joining the classicbikeshow team.
 Derek's passion is the marque of the MG. He owns at present three MGs, and is very active in the MG Car Club. In 2001 and 2002 Derek and his wife Lynn presented two classic car and bike shows in aid of St Barnabas Hospice, in memory of Derek's brother Ian.
This raised nearly £5000 and was a very proud moment for him. He enjoys helping out at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby and every holiday is spent in Sweden, where he and Lynn have made many friends over the years through MGs, this gives him the chance to practice his Swedish!
